18th March 2011

This is the time
when cars and boats collide,
when waves ignore the tide
and rush at seeping speeds
across the sleeping seeds
of twenty thousand tomorrows.

Today masked mourners
struggle on in stoic wonder
under an invisible cloud of rage;
the anger of energy
harnessed by human hands.

And newspapers fumble
to try to turn the page.
Image. Image. Image.
Imagine what could be left
beyond these echoes of Charybdis
when we felt this at every corner
of the intercontinental shelf,
when the earth moved for no one
but herself.

Loss, Energy, Disorder
