How many words
do you use in a day?
Count them up.
Split infinitives
from imperatives,
eradicate the irrelevant,
um and err.

Consider the weight of woe or whim.
Ponder the profanity
that slipped out as a sigh.

Drink, now and then,
from the pool of silence
when nothing came
and no one was there to listen.

How many words
do you use in a day?
How many are yours
and how many do you give away?
These are mine.
Mine, to give to you.
