Annihilate conjecture
and subjective vicissitude,
take a thick black nib
and redact the stars
so navigators will only see
the journey
to the end.

Strip the body
of all adornments
until only the macabre,
meagre, supple puppetry remains,
pulling in one direction only:
to the end.

Ignore the love
that you fed
at the teat of your nib
in long nights’ labours
but cling to the pen
that makes the final cut.
